After visiting for a week the stunning towns of Seville and Granada (see previous summary for pictures), it was time to get back on the water and bring Lily to her Wintering place of Palma de Mallorca. On a beautiful sunny day, November 27, we left Marina del Este and its swell, and sailing East [...] From Marina del Este, The last day of October, 2005 was a special one for several reasons. First, we had a fabulous sunny sailing day with the gennaker up taking Lily to a comfortable 7 to 8 knots speed. The Atlantic seas were even smooth. Second, we left Portugal and technically entered Spain by anchoring on the Spanish side of [...] After having left Lily in Cascais, We did not set sails though until we’d visited Lisbon, Shortly after leaving the little town of Portosin in the Bay of Muros, our ambitions to go as far as Bayonna were halved as we sat under gray skies, drizzling overhead, with not much wind coming against us from the direction of our wished-for destination, and to make a sailing experience altogether unpleasant, 2 to [...] The last day of August, we spent washing Lily and clothes, and resupplying the boat, and having the crew of “Aluqueen” A weather window finally showed itself on August 28 and we set off around noon, on our 48 hour and 359 nm journey across the Bay of Biscay from Camaret-sur-mer, France to La Caruna, Spain. Some say that it is more difficult to sail the Bay of Biscay than cross the Atlantic due to mean [...] In Falmouth, we met friendly people at the Pendennis yard, including Skipper Charlie on 70 footer “Ocean Phoenix”, as well as bumped into the Dutch family met in Holland in Medemblik on “Trinath” on their way to the Azores and the Caribbean. But Falmouth was a place where we stayed out of necessity. On Saturday, [...] After recuperating most of the day (Sunday, August 14) After leaving the busy town of Portsmouth Old Oxford pal Tabs and his wife Kate and their 3 year old daughter Gabs We are in Portsmouth, On the 19th of July we arrived finally with Elias and Lukas at Bruinisse Holland where Lily was waiting for us. To our disappointment the workmen where still installing parts and more or less nothing was finished that we ordered. The dinghy was missing and had to be retrieved from the other side of the [...] |
