Things change, and so does this site! The next few weeks things might look a bit funky.

As you have noticed we are back in Switzerland for the Winter. Lily is in Lavrion Greece on the hard. This spring we plan to continue our sailing adventures in the Med.

Meanwhile we are enjoying domestic life and going on with our projects.

.

costa del sol to Mallorca

After visiting for a week the stunning towns of Seville and Granada (see previous summary for pictures), it was time to get back on the water and bring Lily to her Wintering place of Palma de Mallorca. On a beautiful sunny day, November 27, we left Marina del Este and its swell, and sailing East [...]

Granada and Seville, November 18-22, 2005

From Marina del Este,
on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia, South/East Spain, we rented a car from the very friendly multilingual good value company Lual.es (see their link in “connections underway” for car/apartment/boat rental, maintenance etc in Costa del Sol; yes, we get 10% of everything you’ll spend with them. Well, just [...]

Spain, Fall 05 Guadiana River to Costa del Sol

The last day of October, 2005 was a special one for several reasons.

First, we had a fabulous sunny sailing day with the gennaker up taking Lily to a comfortable 7 to 8 knots speed. The Atlantic seas were even smooth.

Second, we left Portugal and technically entered Spain by anchoring on the Spanish side of [...]

Portugal Autumn 2005

After having left Lily in Cascais,
Portugal for a month of travels in Russia (see “Side Trips”) and Switzerland , we found the boat in good order upon our return October 9, 2005.

We did not set sails though until we’d visited Lisbon,

Portosin to Lisbon (Cascais)

Shortly after leaving the little town of Portosin in the Bay of Muros, our ambitions to go as far as Bayonna were halved as we sat under gray skies, drizzling overhead, with not much wind coming against us from the direction of our wished-for destination, and to make a sailing experience altogether unpleasant, 2 to [...]

Spain, Coruna to Santiago de Compostella

The last day of August, we spent washing Lily and clothes, and resupplying the boat, and having the crew of “Aluqueen”
over for a BBQ. We set off on gorgeous sunny September 1 for the Rias Altas, in Galicia, in the North/West corner of Spain, sailing through the narrow and rocky Islas Sisargas

Biscay crossing and last week of August 05

A weather window finally showed itself on August 28 and we set off around noon, on our 48 hour and 359 nm journey across the Bay of Biscay from Camaret-sur-mer, France to La Caruna, Spain. Some say that it is more difficult to sail the Bay of Biscay than cross the Atlantic due to mean [...]

Falmouth to Camaret, France, third week of August

In Falmouth, we met friendly people at the Pendennis yard, including Skipper Charlie on 70 footer “Ocean Phoenix”, as well as bumped into the Dutch family met in Holland in Medemblik on “Trinath” on their way to the Azores and the Caribbean. But Falmouth was a place where we stayed out of necessity. On Saturday, [...]

From Dartmouth to Falmouth

After recuperating most of the day (Sunday, August 14)
in Dartmouth Harbor
, we decided we needed a bit more peace and quiet and found it by sailing leaving Dartmouth River
and its mouth
, heading S/West along a

Portsmouth to Dartsmouth, Second week of August ‘05

After leaving the busy town of Portsmouth
we headed for the more tranquil waters of the Beaulieu River
(19.2 nautical miles (nm); mostly sailing; 4 hours), set in a nature reserve and

Portsmouth Visitors

Old Oxford pal Tabs and his wife Kate and their 3 year old daughter Gabs
came to visit us in Portsmouth and even braved a bit of choppy seas and reefed sails in beaufort strength 6 winds as we plunged into the Cowes
races around the Isle of Wight
. Gabs never loosened [...]

First week of August 2005

We are in Portsmouth,
having left Holland almost 2 weeks go, sailing from Vlissingen to Oostende (Belgium) across the Channel with perfect breeze to take in the sight of wonderful white cliffs of Dover.
Dropped boys off in London and then have been sailing along the Southern coast, via old Victorian sea-side town of Eastbourne [...]

Arrival on Lily

On the 19th of July we arrived finally with Elias and Lukas at Bruinisse Holland where Lily was waiting for us. To our disappointment the workmen where still installing parts and more or less nothing was finished that we ordered. The dinghy was missing and had to be retrieved from the other side of the [...]
