Getting crowded at the start line
Last few moments tied to land.
Short sail in the bay of La Palma with Steve and Rose. Strong wind and big seas are forecast for the departure tomorow to the Caribbean.
Steve and Rose are onboard!
Market day
Much preparations and ARC activities keep us running all day.
Another day at work. Engine oil changed (rather messy operation), and oil, fuel and water filters changed. Generator oil changed too. Bulbs changed to LED; lifevests serviced/checked…
Time to put the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) flag up as we approach Las Palmas Marina which has been largely taken over by the some 250 participating sailing yachts.
Last day sailing for at least a week as we make final preparations in Las Palmas for the crossing.
Sneaky swim before going into the harbor of Puerto Morgan. We are back in Gran Canaria and heading for Las Palmas from where we depart for the Caribbean in less than 3 weeks!
Last BBQ in Tenerife before early start tomorow morning to Gran Canaria. Rod finally finiShed the steps at the wheel. They look great and Laura can stand on then and see over the hard top to where Lily’s going!
Splendid views from the top of Teide mountain on Tenerife. Wish you were here Andrew!
Finally a cute town in Tenerife, La Orotava
Rod and especially Andrew had a go and then another go and then a few others at the home-made tarzan swing
The last day with Andrew was spent making a sand castle on the southern tip of Tenerife island
Last day at the beach jumping from the tarzan swing and building sand castles.
Excursion and 5 hour hike through La Gomeras rain forest. Such a relief to the eyes to feel the soft green of the moss, ferns and trees everywhere and the cooling damp air. Lovely!
With the last light of the day the top of Teide mountain in the not so distant island of Tenerife is visible. Andrew writes his name in the sand with his footprints and then a stone.
Andrew had his first diving lesson with his German teacher Andy.
Another tough day sailing in big confused waves and we are all happy to reach San Sebastian in Gomera especially Andrew who took no time to leap into the water and roll around like in a washing machine in the crashing waves.
Second mate Andrew at the wheel
Last look at land before we set off for the next island of Gomera
Sunset swim after tough day
Finally land which stops the waves! Andrews first question when regaining consciousness was ‘what did i miss for lunch?’ and we knew if was back to his former self.
Only a bit of sea-sickness will knock this kid out! 25 miles from Tenerife, 20 knots wind from N-E, 2 metre waves, partly sunny
Leaving Gran Canaria for the island of Tenerife
Dragontree at some weird caves then fooling around in the waves of Las Palmas and in the dunes of Maspalomas. Nothing seems to tire Andrew out.
Short lunch stop at the north of the island. Andrew burns off some energy tacling waves.
We rent a car to explore Gran Canaria. Our first stop is a amazing cactus garden.
Andrews treasure from a strange tree
