Boys keeping their cool in squalls, big Atlantic waves and 30 knots winds.
Laura bakes the ultimate Calzone.
Fort de France is closed down with the carnival.
Exciting sail into Fort de France
Gennaker up as we sail north along west coast of Martinique, passed Diamond Rock
First day sailing. Elias has sunburnt feet.
Rods boys Lukas and Elias flew in last night from Switzerland bringing lots of rain! Cleared up eventually for some windsurfing action in bay of St Anne in Southern Martinique.
The boys arrive, what a great reunion!
Our last look at the Pitons. Rod resurfaced after a rest and a noodle soup. Winds continue to be against us, atypically from the north..:-S
Its a struggle today. Rod below sick as a dog. Wind, current and waves against us as we near St Lucia’s Pitons to be able to pick up Rods two boys in time after tomorrow in Martinique. Blahhhh
After a delicious dinner of poached fish with rice and salad, and a short rolly sleep, we set off at 7am for St Lucia despite the light winds
Rod finally catches a fish between Carriacou and Union Island. We think it’s a Cero or a Spanish Mackerel. Rod fillets the fish according to the teachings of our Kiwi friend Steve
Lovely sail to Carriacou from Grenada. Had another unfriendly encounter upon arriving in this bay of Tyrell: not from a local but another sailboat telling us to anchor more in one direction, move back and that we should really not use so much chain. Why, hello, and so not nice meeting you, you j..k on [...]
We inspect the old Governors House which on doubt was once grand and elegant overlooking the bay above St George. Looks like it was neglected well before the Hurricane Ivan hit in 2004… Breaks our heart to see this but this house is even worse than our last project in Basel, so we’ve decided to [...]
Hello, we are digging for Yam! Rod hikes alone into the mountainous forests of Grenada and receives all kinds of gifts from the farmers.
We rented a car and drove around Beautiful Happy Friendly Grenada
Very interesting visit of the River Antoine Rum distillery still using the power of the River water to turn the wheel which itself turns the large metal cogs grinding the sugar cane thus extracting the sweet juice which is then concentrated in heated vats before fermenting 3 days. The smelly juice is piped into the [...]
Ward explains to us everything to know about Coco from the adam to chocolate at the Belmont Plantation.
St. George the Capital of Grenada with its friendly people, lively harbor and colorful market is our favorite island till now and we decide to stay a few days and explore.
Our dinghy’s lock acting up with the salty air and water frustrating us every time…
Hillsborough the capital of Carriacou
Sailing to Cariacou island which is part of Grenada
Back on Happy Island for Happy Hour
It once was only a pile of broken reef, sand and rocks. Big rocks, concrete, chairs and booze were brought over across the small Bay of Clifton on Union Isle. It was Christened Happy Island and is the happiest place around to have a guava, pineapple juice with rum and of course a sprinkle of [...]
A pirate ship, none other than Scaramouche which featured in the film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ raised its sails and took off for the Cays no doubt looking to lighten the load of some English merchant ship. Winds are gusting to 30 knots today so Rod is happily gliding at 20 knots on his surf [...]
At it again! Wonderful windy day. Turtles came to visit again .:-)
