The sailing bug was implanted in me by my father, who hung up pictures of olympic star-boat races in which he participated above my bed as of 3 years of age. I was born in 1961 and grew up in New Jersey USA next to the little lake of Mt Kemble Morristown, where as much as I remember, I spent most of my time in, on and under water.
When I was ten, our originally Hungarian immigrant family moved back to Europe to Switzerland near Basel. On weekends and holidays we sailed on the lake of Zurich or on the Hungarian lake Balaton, pirates and other small day-sailors. At 16 my dad sent me off to the Hanseatische Jachtschule Glücksburg in Northern Germany where I was drilled with 15 other confused boys in sailing under difficult circumstances in the North Sea.
From then on, I skippered our part-owned Calimera, a 42 ft English-built sloop every year in the Mediterranean seas of Spain, Portugal, France, Italy Croatia, Greece and Turkey.
From my previous relationship I have two fine boys: Elias (1987)
and Lukas (1989)
who are accompanying us part time from their home base in Switzerland.
Professionally, I was trained as an architect at the ETH in Zürich, worked for several offices and from 1991 with my own independent studio. As of 1995, I also taught computer aided design at the Swiss university of applied sciences of Aargau and in 2000 received a professorship at the Department of Interior Design and Head of Research of the University of Art and Design in Basel Switzerland. I am still involved in "Living-room" a research project on augmented reality funded by the Swiss Federal National Fund until 2007. Most of which I will be doing from of Lily by internet. http://www.fhbb.ch/hgk/af/livingroom/
